Reviving this thread for some opinions.

I am getting two new babies soon and I can't decide which names to go with.

I'm getting a H maculata that I want to name either Galdalf (ya know the grey or white) or Shadowfax (Gandalfs white horse who has haste)

The second baby will be a P murinus that I'm stuck between either Mordor (ya know cause doom and lava and evil) or Isildur (for same reasons pretty much, evil corrupted etc.)

Any Tolkien fans out there who wanna chime in?

Typically, I do not name my spiders until I know the sex. Most of my collection is young, and some may have a nickname. Right now, my named Ts are:

P. auratus male: Dorado
N. incei gold female: Peaches
A. seemanni female: Paulie
C. cyaneopubescens unsexed: Tiger Butt (named by my 6-year-old)
A. chalcodes female: Wylla

I have a P. sp machalla and P sp insignis who are both very skittish and always kick hairs. They aren't named yet, but I mostly call them jerks.

I typically don't care if M/F spoods don't have "Gender appropriate" names. Gimili is a female T albo and she's so hairy that it just fits ya know :p

Here we go m’lady: ‘Orodruin’! :D

Damn, I think you've done it now! Got me ponderin' three names hahaha

As for me, I don’t name them.

Since I don’t have more than one of any species, but have 18 species at present, I call them ‘the rufilata’, ‘the apophysis’, ‘the sp. Sabah Blue’ (or just ‘the Sabah’) etc.

I think if I end up with more than one of any it’ll be ‘murinus 1’, ‘murinus 2’ etc.

Don’t get the idea that I’m not fond of them though! I am lol :D

I like Gandalf, and I vote for Isildur.

Definitely Shadowfax. Those jawns can cruise lol.

My LP has recently been dubbed Opdenaker, after a local trash removal service, since she’s basically a dumpster lol

Wow @ThatGuy83 Nice! Quite the eclectic list of names for your tarantulas. Let's see: Tolkien/Middle Earth, Shakespeare, Harry Potter, EverQuest, World of Warcraft, ancient mythology ( Greek, Egyptian) Marvel heroes, Game of Thrones, Vikings, Futurama, Star Wars. Comedians Cheech and Chong ( I remember sneaking into their movies as a pre or early teen).
Well there are more I can guess at and some that sound familiar but remain elusive to my memory. Some I am sure I don't know.

Picked up 2 new slings at a reptile expo a few weeks ago. One is a B. horrida, with a vivid bright red carapace. I named her Ignis- the Latin word for fire. The other is a tiny 2i P. ornata, still trying to figure out a name for him/her. Suggestions are welcome :)

I name all of mine... I am determined to ;) My 5 latest ones are still waiting for names. I like to name them as to me they are all pets and I can get to know each one individually regarding their behaviours/preferences/character easier if they have a name. Also, practically it makes it easier to monitor them, especially those of the same species that could otherwise easily get mixed up.

I seem to have a few of the same names as Thatguy83 :p I did have a Nefertiti, however she was a jumping spider and sadly passed away I 'hope' of old age.

I am a big fan of Harry Potter so some are named from there, some are from other television programmes/films, some my friends have named and some are Latin as I really like the sound of that language. So if I'm struggling I pick a feature of the spider and look up the Latin word for it.

This list includes my 6 non-tarantula spiders but the rest are Ts:

1 Ridunkulus, 2 Celeritatem, 3 Casper, 4 Neo, 5 Bellatrix, 6 Luna, 7 Calypso, 8 Hera, 9 Saz, 10 Nebulus, 11, Izzy, 12 Melody, 13 Dave, 14 Occamy, 15 Sydney, 16 Daveina, 17 Nevele, 18 Layla, 19 Syrus, 20 Zobia, 21 Dory, 22 Mystica, 23 Sonic, 24 Kai, 25 Rufus, 26 Daveeta, 27 Aamon, 28 Eclipse, 29 Nymphadora, 30 Victory, 31 Leta, 32 Neptune, 33 Nera, 34 Lily , 35 Xena, 36 Freya, 37 Heidi, 38 Sahara, 39 Penelope, 40 Moss, 41 Meadow, 42 Harmony, 43 Ruby, 44 Crystal, 45 Kiera , 46 Allegro, 47 Tibby, 48 Bruce, 49 Hector, 50 Roger, 51 Cadenza, 52 Amelia, 53 Lorax, 54 Nancy, 55 Misty, 56 Matilda 57 Accenderet, 58 Roxy, 59 Ridikulus, 60 Hugo, 61 Razzer

Some new spoods acquired at the Midlands Entomological fayre at the weekend, most have been named...

P. vittata - Mithrandir (idea shamelessly stolen from Teresaisrad)
P. tigrinawesseli - Sita (Sita is the most photographed tiger for Nat.Geo)
Pamphobeteus sp. manga negra - Alanna Myles (Black velvet! The first time I saw this species it looked so gorgeous and velvety, I was upset when I rushed back to buy it and it had gone. Excited to find a sling at the show.)
Sericopelma santa catalina - Catalina (Easy one)

As yet unnamed...
Grammostola pulchripes
P. regalis
