Update:
Romeo got to experience snow for the first time today. He enjoys running in it surprisingly. Going to record a video of him most likely tonight before the snow starts melting.
He no longer sleeps in his crate and rarely does he sleep in his playpen (I still put him in there when I am out or doing something that requires full attention, like tarantula maintenance.
