Hey everyone my names Deanoooo ( like the username didn't give it away) I'm from England and new to the hobby, just got my first t, she's a rose, although it's unsexed at the mo, so if it's a he, I'm in trouble,I guess I'd be owed a few flicked hairs for that insult, especially after naming it Molly haha! I've always been wanting a t, n now my children are getting older, n my oldest girl has obsessions, which is animals, my wife gave me the thumbs up! Been researching researching and learning for the 3 months!! N so far it's been incredible, only downside is I had my heart set on a euathulus so red, my favourite, but there hard to come by in the south of England at the mo, unless it's a spiderling, which I'm not knowledgeable at all, any advice on that guys would be greatly received!

That's fantastic, thank you, just out of curiosity what are you feeding your sp red on, I've been reading that a tiny cricket would be ok, but removing it's jumping legs, but elsewhere it says half a meal worm, what do u go with??

Because I have quite a few tiny slings, I feed them on pinhead, or micro, crickets that I buy on line.

If you're planning on getting a 2nd tarantula anytime soon, I highly recommend a Brachypelma smithi or albopilisum. Much better appetite than rose hairs and less prone to mood swings. Whatever you decide on let us know! I'm always happy to suggest species to people.

Thanks chubbs, the fact u suggested a smithi puts a smile on my face, they were the first t I looked at and thought " wow she's a beauty"!
The only thing that surprised me, is my local specialist advised me against this, as they can be fairly aggressive, he's words not mine, but now I'm thinking was he trying to sell off a rose hair to cut down the stock or was he being genuine! Atleast he suggested the rise hair thou, when I went to my local pet store, they tried selling there MM salmon pink and he was huge, and was constantly on the move, looking for a female,no thanks this is my first, I'll go for something abit smaller! I'll let u no what I go for, thanks chubbs

Rosies are actually known for being moody and some can be pretty mean in my experience. Smithis are generally calmer. Good luck with your search.

Don't be conned into buying an MM as they don't live long after reaching maturity.

To be honest Enn49 as soon as I see him, I new he'd got to that age and his actions (none stop moving ) all signalled he probably only had a little while left! Thanks for the heads up thou I'm starting to see why researching and learning is so important, quiet easily find yourself abit out of your depth right

Welcome, DeanoMolly! :)

Yeah...I went to two of my local pet shops and found MM G. roseas for sale. Really sad, IMO. Can't believe they do that...selling them as unsexed when they're obviously hooked out! *smh*

Thanks PamCz (for the welcome)!! Well I think my wife's hooked lol, "Lector" is on his way, a B. Smithi, I'm proper excited, 30 years old n I'm excited how sad is that lol, it's a juvi, around 1 & 1/2 inchs, substrates been drying out for 3 days n I'm planting out his tank as I'm concerned it's a little to big!! I've also bought a DIY lunch box which I've vented out as my wife n I are thinking about a curly hair spiderling!!
When people said t's are addictive I never thought I'd get the bug lol

That's a sling then, not a juvenile. Most consider them juveniles once they hit around 2 inches.

Well you'll have fun with it either way. Great species. Very slow growing, but we'll worth waiting for.

Sorry to bother any of you guys again, but what a day it's been today, not shocking, neither was it a surprise!! A bit of an unexpected day, would be best word to use!!
So I've had lector 3 days. What a dude he is, got home, into the bath and put him his new home, his abdomen was bald, he's obviously been kicking cos his abdomen was peach colored, but with the paint brush in hand he quiet happily let me coach him, with no fuss, and ever since its been great!!! Until today
My wife's been sucked into the t world as well and after helping with lector, we agreed we wanted a slightly older brachypelma albiopolmus!! Low n behold we found a beautiful girl (apparently) she's between 6-7 cm body, looked healthy and seemed great!! Welcome in Betty. Well all the way home my wife keep pestering me, can she take the lead in Rehoming Her, today it's been very humide, we travelled a fair way, but we were happy.
Into the bathroom we went, paintbrush in hand, well as my wife touched Betty with the brush she moved very slightly,so she went back again with the brush, only this time, she kind of give betty abit of alonger, helping hand, and without any sign BOOSH, Betty jumped round n literally mashed the paintbrush, I think her attack was what people describe as a death roll attack (I'm not 100% sure if that's its name) bless my missus, she gently put down the brush, n walked away, telling me to take over, I waited for her to climbed out herself and removed her tub!
At the shop the told me she eat well was very docile n never kicked hair, NO she's just a pro wrestler!! But we all no that t's are capible of I guess, even at the time, I was trying to anticipate a bad reaction, just in case !!! I inspected her old substrate and found 4 webbed locust, so she hasn't eaten and she's done a fair bit of webbing in her travel container!! Could she be preparing for a moult??? I could be putting 2+2 together n getting 5, but just the not eating, aggression and webbing accessivly could it be the reason?
She's went in her hide and I've just checked her and she's still burrowing in her hide!like I say I no t's have good/bad days, there are good/bad temperament tarantulas, no matter the breed, but the b. Albo are relatively well mannered!
Anyway just any input or experiences would be really appreciated right now

Congrats on the new T. The behaviour could just be caused by the stress of moving and rehoming especially if she's in premoult.

Thank you, and thanks for the reply, Betty is such a beaut as well, I defently gotta add some photos up of her, like I said Enn49 I no the respect and responsibilities that come with tarantulas, but my word, she wouldn't of been the one on the top of my list for that reaction
