Wow, missed this thread! So focused on my new T's haha. I completely agree with everything everyone on this thread has said. Without this forum I would be out on the other forum busy being flamed, especially because of my age. Being young in a hobby where almost everyone is adult can be a bit difficult, but this forum makes me fit right in! Everyone is so helpful. And friendly while they are at it! There are two answers formats to a post. Let's say the question was "Do tarantulas eat people". On the other forum the answer would be along the lines of "no you bloody idiot, give me your spiders you can't care for them you'll end up killing them because you accidentally overfilled the water dish." While here it would be "haha your funny. [insert funny answer]". This forum is non-toxic and non-bias. And full of great information. On this forum @Casey K. offered me a free T! On this forum @Dave Jay @Phil @PanzoN88 @Enn49 @Arachnoclown @Tabitha @Whitelightning777 @WolfSpider have all helped me greatly! Without these 10 people I would be feeding my spider lollipops right about now! Without this forum I would be googling "how to extinguish the fire on my tarantula", or "why is my tarantula in pieces" "how to do satanic ritual to bring back my tarantula from dead" "why can't I feed my tarantula salad" "how to give a tarantula a proper haircut", etc... This forum is the best T community out there. Thank you all, and have a wonderful night...

It's funny that you mentioned being a young in a hobby where most are adults, for me it's the exact opposite situation regarding Formiculture, I'm a novice in a hobby where young people have the most experience!
I'm glad you are enjoying this forum, you have been a welcome addition! :)

Haha yes! Formiculture is FULL of young people. It's easier for a kid to go outside snooping around your neighbors bushes than it is an adult.

I think also on this subject. If someone answers a question it's normally backed up with experience, logic or evidence. Very rarely is a question answered with no backup information.

I won't answer a question on a species I have never kept, it wouldn't feel right.

its great to have youngsters involved in the hobby whatever the knowledge-were all never too old or young to learn something new;)

I usually look for ants in the carpark of the local hospital so I'm pretty sure people think that the guy on his hands and knees digging with a spoon or chasing ants with a test tube has escaped from the mental ward!

interesting how Formiculture is popular with T keepers as ants have traditionally been the scurge of T keepers with many stories of keepers using deterents around enclosures to keep them away.
An army of ants could easily take a T down. So....let's keep a lid on them all shall we....ha ha :D:D:D

I ended up quiting ant keeping a few months ago, got bored. Will definitely get some more next year, mainly to sell. Made so much money off that hobby lol. I only keep preying mantids and tarantulas now. And some feeders (little Kenyan roaches, Dubia roaches, flightless fruit flies, blue bottle house flies.)

Just fully disclose that you don't have that one yet.

For something in the same genus with identical care, one can still have a high degree of confidence in ones answer.
If you haven't had one and your going of caresheets for your info it maybe wrong advise.
Example of genus differences and wrong care sheets....
Aphonopelma chalcodes like dry substrate and Aphonopelma seemanni prefer a more moist substrate. Most care sheets have this wrong, they say they both prefer dry substrate.
There are lots more...dont want to bore people with it. This topic would make a great thread though.;)
