Only Native Australian tarantula species are available to us, thankfully there is quite a lot of them and many have yet to be brought into the hobby.

Yeah they pack one hell of a bite, 9 hours of muscle cramps and vomiting, also have a 100% kill ratio on dogs and cats of all sizes.
I read the medical write ups on dogs and cats, but they also mentioned the venom was negligible to humans, that many people shrugged off the venom like it was nothing..your posts say differently though...I guess it's true about people reacting differently to spider venom..very interesting.

Aw that's so sad, you will love a smithi or a gbb! Your native species all looked the same to me. No offence meant. Hope you can get a permit to own awesome non-native Ts!

Nah something about keepng T's from my own country is in a strange way satisfy, try not to compare the entire worlds tarantulas vs Australias, select continents like America and Africa and then compare, you will find our Tarantulas are quite different. These are only a few from out country, we have tons and tons of species still undiscovered and not in the hobby including aboreals.

Australian tarantulas are awesome. Their venom and generally defensive nature definitely makes them a species that demands respect. It's unfortunate that people in Australia can only keep native species, but if you are satisfied with that that's all that matters. They definitely are fascinating.

Don't get me wrong I would love to own some of the Arboreal tarantulas you have access to and a one of the theraphosa's but I know I will never get that chance here so there is no point in dreading about it, just get on with it and enjoy what's available to us in Australia and I understand why the government doesn't allow exotics, our ecosystem is so different to the rest of the world we can't afford to risk it, wouldn't want Australia turning into Florida.

@Jigalojey
its a shame u dont have access to all species of Ts, but as u say u have a wide variety of Ts that are native any way !!!
i do agree with u on not spoling the natural ecosystem also. (florida is a mess with all the evacive species)

The laws in Australia are so backwards. It makes no sense you can't import exotics, but can bring as many birds, fish and mammals in. This is coming from an Australian also. I hope they can at least review it, scrap the blanket ban and have case by case legislation.

I'm bumping this up because I can't add links to the videos using my phone, when I get on pc I'll just use the video links somewhere.

BTW , the guy who commented last obviously has no idea about how our import laws work, it is case by case with each species but they won't fund a study of every possible animal just becausr someone might want to keep one someday, the Pet industry has to partition the government to study the animal and make a decision for the species in question, that rarely happens.
