Is there a trick to feeding them when they're this little? I tried giving it a pre-killed cricket with some tweezers but he wouldn't eat it. Kept turning away. Any suggestions? Maybe premolt? Abdomen is black and I'm not sure when he last molted.

Could be premolt. Good thing about pre-killed is that you don't have to worry about leaving it. I just set them about 1" in front of the T or at the entrance to their den and let them find it. The few I've done that way haven't last more than a few hours, but I'd remove it after a day if it's not eaten.

My two penneth and to quote a famous line from Jurassic Park (when feeding TRex wit a goat)....."she doesn't want feeding, she wants to hunt". I apply this rule for ALL my spiders, as long as the prey is the appropriate size, they will do what nature intended and seems to activate the prial inotice to hunt. I do not really subscribe to pre-killed at all. Only possible application I can see is if nursing a sick spider in ICU. Just a view but it works for me.

i've never had a T eat prekilled except once. and that i think is cause it rolled down the web to them and they snagged it. I feed them food no larger than their abdomen. baby crickets, pinhead roaches work well.

Well I just checked on him a few minutes ago and he ate the cricket! He looks so funny standing there with this little tiny cricket in in his fangs. I honestly never thought I would say this about a spider but he is cute :) How often would you recommend feeding him at this age?

I don't just throw in a pre killed cricket. When they're this tiny, I cut the small crickets head off, then cut it in 1/2, and give the sling one of the halves

Outstanding! Always feels good to know they are eating well. Overall I agree with Phil on the pre-killed thing. It works in a pinch, but I do prefer to watch them earn it. At that size I will feed a couple times a week.

Our b smithi when 1/2 inch are about once every 5 days. Though it is a picky eater. Once or twice a week depending on temperature your keeping your T at should be good. Also our sling is averaging a molt every 2-3 months after 3 molts. So it shouldn't be long till that one molts
