The end half of the abdomen looks as though the outer surface has been lost. A redish, hairless surface is present. The spider is also off its food. What is the problem. Thanks, Brooke (16)

It sounds like a moult coming up, the reddish patch will darken as the moult nears.

As Enn49 pointed out it sounds like pre molt. A pic would really be helpful if it were something other.
