Pupil: Is this tarantula poisonous sir?
Teacher: No not at all kids.
One of the pupils picks up the tarantula and is bitten. The pupil then starts to spasm and foam at the mouth
Teacher: However it is venomous. Venom is always injected. Poison is ingested or absorbed through the skin. Get it right next time kids.

Harsh but fair...LOL

It never ceases to amaze me how many people don't know the difference between poisonous and venomous.

I know it's on a different scale but when I see wrong information at zoos/pet shops or any other facilities like this (any animal not just ts) it always reminds me of the film black fish (recommend watching if haven't seen it already) where they just say what they've been told even if it's wrong and don't think to look themselves

Blackfish? You mean the fantasy piece meant to smear good people doing good work? I don't recommend anyone watch that pack of lies, unless you already know its false and want to watch some comedy. If you keep animals as pets, animal rights groups are not your friends.

I'm talking about the part of the film when they mention orcas only living for 30 years and the collapsed dorsal fin and such. Bit off topic but you don't have to be an animal rights activist to agree that an orca whale shouldn't be kept in captivity

The people who made that dishonest film and their ilk all agree that tarantulas and all our other pets shouldn't be kept in captivity too. When they make "Black Tarantula" and paint you to look like an animal exploiting villain who sends innocent insects to a painful death all for your own entertainment at watching your captive enslaved spiders eating them alive, will you then campaign to end tarantula ownership?

Did you feel this way about orcas in captivity before you were emotionally manipulated by the lies told in that film? How many people would know the first thing about orcas and other sea life, if not for SeaWorld?

If this sounds like I'm coming on a little strong, I am. Sitting back and letting these people take our rights away has been a failing strategy for far too long. We need to speak up and speak out against these liars and extremists, before our kids and grandkids are forced to grow up with no animals in their lives.

I get what your saying. But I don't watch entertainment much on tv. For a very long time I've watched documentaries on all sorts of animals and environments. You don't need to watch blackfish to know that an orca shouldn't be kept in a paddling pool. I'm not saying don't keep animals. I've had 100s of pets over the years and many different types. But having a cat, dog, hamster, tarantula, snake ,lizard and so on is different to a whale.

And thanks for thinking that I get manipulated by a film. Obviously you don't think others are capable of thinking for themselves

As a little backstory for you , free willy 2 was the first film I ever watched in a cinema so that's when I had an interest in orcas

What if you drink tarantula venom? Is it not, then, poison? Eh? EH? BLEW YOUR DAMNED MINDS DIDN'T I? No? Ok. Off topic I once knew a woman who was both venomous and poisonous. She also spat venom. I'm quite sure her blood would burn holes through the floor but I never found a way to penetrate the thick hide. The steel belted panties should have been a dead giveaway. I eventually called fish and game and had her relocated. What were we talking about?

If you drink venom would it not be diluted and destroyed with Sylvia and stomache acids? I'm not willing to try it but I'm sure on Reddit somewhere someone's tried lol

This seemed to sum it up nicely https://knowledgenuts.com/2014/01/02/the-difference-between-poison-and-venom/
It is my understanding most venoms are harmless if swallowed.

"Animals like snakes and spiders are often described as either being venomous or poisonous; both are harmful, but there is a difference. That difference is in the delivery system of the animal’s toxic substance. Animals that are venomous must inject their target with their toxin, whether through a bite or a sting. Those that are poisonous have toxins that must be swallowed or inhaled in order to be dangerous...
...
For an animal to be venomous, the toxin has to be somehow injected into the body of the victim. Whether they use fangs or stingers, venomous animals have to get their toxins beneath the skin and then into the bloodstream to be effective.
Poisonous animals, on the other hand, have a passive-aggressive form of toxicity. In order to be dangerous, they need to have their toxins swallowed or inhaled by the victim"

You guys are criticizing people who don't know the difference. These are the same people who think koalas are bears and bats are birds. You can be injected with poison. Watch some cold case tv. This person or that person was injected by a poison, and they died and their killer almost got away, blah blah blah. Last time I did research Ts had venom, which in todays world is the same as poison. Just like their, there, and they're are all the same. I mean Hello....

We're not criticising random people who don't know. They are people who should know. It's like going to your doctor and he doesn't know the difference between a knife and a scalpel.

And FYI their there and they're are not the same. The meanings are different .

I was being facetious. Read my comments with humor. Todays people dont know the difference, thats whats funny. Listen to anyone now a days. Their, there, and they're are as bad as figuratively and literally. It's now interchangable.
