Introduction: Hello everyone, I am documenting my current P. irminia breeding project, including all technical details, behavioral observations, and the specialized isolation system I’ve implemented.
To maximize egg sac success and minimize maternal stress, I have established a zero-vibration, light-controlled environment:
Log #1: Initial Pairing and Critical Observations
Date: Friday, May 1, 2026, 12:14 AM- The Pairing: After the male approached and lifted the female, I observed a successful insertion attempt.
- The Reaction: Immediately following contact, the female attempted to lunge at the male.
- Intervention: Being prepared with my brush, I managed to separate them safely right away.
- Post-Mating Behavior: Following the separation, the female remained completely still in her enclosure, while the male immediately began grooming his pedipalps—a reliable indicator of a successful sperm transfer.
Log #2: Update – Construction Behavior Initiated
Date: Friday, May 1, 2026, 12:46 AM- Behavioral Shift: Shortly after the pairing and the male’s grooming, the female began carrying substrate in her mouth.
- Enclosure Rearrangement: She is currently busy rearranging her enclosure.
- Significance: This "construction behavior" is a very strong sign of a successful pairing and indicates the beginning of the egg-laying process.
Log #3: Update – Male "Reloaded" (Sperm Web)
Date: May 1, 2026 (Continuous Observation)- Quick Recovery: Not even 24 hours after the successful pairing, the male completed a new sperm web and "fully reloaded."
- Strategy: Since he was ready again, I began considering a "safety pairing" to guarantee results, despite the female being busy sealing her hide.
Log #4: Second Pairing Success – Confirmed Double Lock!
Date: Sunday, May 3, 2026, 12:40 PM- The Second Round: Following the fresh sperm web, I decided to proceed with a second "safety" pairing today.
- The Result: It was a total success!
- Observation: The male was very confident, and I witnessed another clear, prolonged insertion.
- Outcome: With a "Double Lock" confirmed and the female’s immediate sealing behavior, I am very confident about this sac.
-
Log #5: Technical Report – "Magnetic Stealth Shield" System
Date: May 5, 2026 (2 Days Post-Pairing)To maximize egg sac success and minimize maternal stress, I have established a zero-vibration, light-controlled environment:
- Isolation Material: Double-layered black felt chosen for total light blockage while maintaining breathability.
- Mounting Mechanism: The felt is secured to the shelving unit using silicone tape, with magnets attached directly to the metal frame.
- The Advantage: This allows for curtain management and monitoring without any physical contact or vibration to the enclosure itself.
- Environmental Data:- Temperature: Consistently maintained between 27°C and 28°C (80°F - 82°F).
- Standard Humidity: Oscillates between 65% and 71%, peaking at 85% after misting.
- Hydration Protocol: Water is provided via a syringe/needle system through ventilation holes to avoid opening the lid.
I hope you enjoyed my technical report and find these observations helpful. I am committed to documenting every step of this journey, so I will continue to post updates as the situation develops. Stay tuned for more!
