I have a ten gallon filled with eco earth, deep hide, and sensible space filling (non cacti) decorations in place. Some of the stuff I've seen ppl put in thier setups! "oh I just put me in a huge cactus for fuzzy the (insert species name here) to impale himself or herself on!" O_O I am waiting for Chi-Chi to stop stretching and to eat a cricket and a few wax worms before moving her into the new space. SHE and she is a confirmed she, went from roughly 31/2 inches to 4+ in leg span. The molt rate is slow and so far predictable, but total growth from molt to molt is......alot! I did feed her 6 medium to large crickets mostly every week last year, with temps in the low to mid seventies. It could account for the size increase. She is going to be a monster!
I think ten gallons is JUST enough. She does like to explore and tear up the terrain. I just can't believe the size increase, but then again I'm coming from G. Rosea and A. Hentzi! This one is a regular bulldozer, especially at night. When I've been on my gaming pc, late at night, I've heard her picking up the water dish, dumping it, then, carrying it to the other side of the keeper. She once, dug up the hide, tore up one corner of the keeper, then pounced on a roach, finished it up, and after that resumed the remodeling rampage. lol I've followed all the rules and she still destroys my carefully laid out setups.
When Chi-Chi reaches Tarantula horse status, I can't wait to see what it takes to keep up with her appetite. I'm FINALLY getting back into the workforce, and I want a FEW more T's. A young B. Hamorii (don't like the name change) would be nice to get. It could occupy the small keeper awhile.
