I'd be confident in saying 90% of the active members on here have experience with p Cambridgeis so feel free to ask anything. The genus' listed are the more commonly owned with multiple species but there's no issue with asking in general discussion. Btw if there was a section for every genus Enn has in her collection we would need another forum :)

Just curious as to why there is no psalmopoeus genus listed on this forums page?
From what I understood they are some of the older T's that have been kept as pets for quite a while now.
I am new to keeping T's but are there any forums or pages I should check out related to the psalmopoeus cambridgei ?
welcome to the forum. Good question. You can always post a poll on whether or not it should be added to the genus list. The mods may ultimately have the last say but at least you could gauge if something other members may be interested in.
As @Rs50matt has suggested, any questions, just ask away :)

@Josh or possibly @Yvonne G are the ones to ask about adding to the genus list

I keep getting very contradictory information about them, a few people have told me they aren't that poisonous & others have said super poisonous.
I've also had people tell me keeping T's in general but especially this genus around my toddler is insane.
I'm pretty responsible always have a catch cup anytime I open the enclosure I'm basically ready to give chase... I don't see an issue really but friends and family do!

Well, they definitely are not poisonous ;) Relatively venomous compared to the majority of new world species, yes, but not as bad as old world species. Though, I have no idea how dangerous tarantula venom may be for a toddler.

I researching how bad the bite could potentially be for my daughter and found out they make hot sauce out of Trinidad chevron venom.. I myself love hot sauce so its cool to see. However still no info found on bites in children. TBH I don't really let her to close to my T and she hasn't tried to or asked to touch her or anything even close, she sometimes looks at the enclosure and then runs away lol.

You'll also have some people who will say having a dog around a toddler is insane. As long as your responsible why does it matter :)

Having a t in an enclosure causes zero harm to a child yet smoking in the same house as a small child can cause health issues yet millions of people do that daily.

Also I'm not sure about making a sauce out of the venom but in general venom is broken down when ingested and will only really cause issues if someone has open wounds or ulcers inside their mouth. That's where the difference between venomous and poisonous comes from. Venom is injected. Poison ingested

Aren't they kept the same as pokies? I now have an empty cage....

From what I understand they're very similar husbandry. When I had a few slings the only difference I noticed between them and pokies is they like to make dirt curtains rather than hide in a cork bark or web tube.

I'm very inexperienced with the species thou so well wait to see what our expert clown has to say :D

Yes, virtually the same. Don't forget to look at the Psalmopoeus reduncus too.
Yes Enn is correct. You keep them exactly the same as pokies. I feel they are alot more defensive then pokies and seem much faster.
My Psalmopoeus reduncus is one of my favorites ....
