looking for a T who makes nice web displays, I love the look of a heavily webbed enclosure. Needs to be NW, not a dwarf, and preferable big and gentle, not too big, though, needs to fit in a 12” cube. What do ya got for me?

My biggest webbers are my GBB. They are NW, but not all that big or gentle…

There are a few options but the GBB checks basically every box. I’m not totally sure what you mean by gentle, but I’ve never seen a threat posture from mine. They’re a bit skiddish though.

I keep most of mine in 5 gallon terrariums but I keep one in an 11” cube and its a perfect size.

GBB is really your best option, but if you are looking for something that is a docile, heavy webbing, large tarantula I don't think you'll find it. As already stated above GBBs are skittish. There are exceptions though. I had a massive female GBB until a year or two ago and she was just as mellow as my E. Sp. red. I've heard some say their GBBs are psychotic.

Okey dokey, by gentle I meant won’t want to kill me. My only OW is an OBT and he’s a bit freaky, if he was bigger he’d find some way to kill me haha. I’ll look into GBBs, I like their colours.

If you already have an OW, why not check out the harpactira genus.

M balfouri does lots of webbing as well as extensive burrow systems.

Although they are OW, the personality is nothing aggressive or defensive like the OBT or H minax etc.

M balfouri can also be kept communally or by itself but many feel it does better with friends. The web structures they build are always changing as well.

Do be sure that no mold gets into the substrate. I suspect that mold played a role in the death of my specimen. They are a dry spider. Ensure that no webbing gets into the waterdish so it doesn't wick away into the substrate.

They are flighty spiders but will always retreat into burrows whenever possible. You have to dig them out carefully when rehousing.

Overall, they are probably a much better first OW then the OBT, totally different personality.

The first picture is of Maxine, a juvenile. The second one is what she looked like as a sling. When young, they burrow and do that a lot.

I do like them, not sure if I could ever convince my mom to let me get some, but they’re pretty neat. My mom really likes the GBB, I’ll probably go with that. There’s so many other things I want, I think I’ll get an E. sp. red, a vinegaroon, and a GBB for now, but I’ll get more in the future! Thanks all!

The o only species I could come up with are Avics/ybrapora/caribena which are arboreal, I don't know if they are webbers or not, but perhaps E. murinus

C versicolor will make a simple style web but not web up the entire enclosure unless it's probably too small for the tarantula.

Still, I have to second the motion to do a GBB. They're a great species, to bad I'm running out of room for my spiders.

Ephebopus murins is a possibility: they web a lot but... tend to stay underground in a hole. And keeping them is a little more difficult because they need more moisture than other terrestrials. That being said, lots of web around the hole. Not in the same way as Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (= GBB) which spins not only on the ground but everywhere else if you give it anchor points. Your best bet, by far! (Or its close cousin Dolichothele diamantinensis, but its a dwarf).

My heaviest spinner is Chilobrachys fimbriatus, but it's asian (OW) and rather defensive...
