The H. gigas is from Africa as well as others of the same species, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that this particular tarantula has noticeably larger back legs and in elongated abdomen, the other tarantulas in this species mostly have a rounded abdomen and all legs are the same size. I wonder if there is any relation between the king baboon tarantula and this particular tarantula? It's just a question and a curiosity of mine. If you look at the different types of tarantulas in that species, gigas is the only one with larger rear legs. Just something I noticed. It resembles in a way the king baboon tarantula, larger rear legs and elongated abdomen. Just my own theory and observation. I'm probably wrong, lol but I guess you never know right?

I have never kept H. Gigas but have a sling King Baboon a MM and a MF King as well! I have noticed in pics of H. Gigas the very thing you described in your post and have wondered the same thing. Somewhere the tree branched off back in the day with the Gigas adapting to more moisture laden environments and the King more the drier savannah type environment. My guess at least. H. Gigas is always on the radar but I can't keep every T I like cos I would probably shoot for all!!! I also love the look of my female KBs abdomen pill shaped and so cool. Amazes me how fast they are that size and sounds like a herd of horses when those eight legs get to boogying! It's took more than a minute for my female KB to start venturing out from the burrow and only at night! Love it now that I catch her out more often as she is totally stunning! I think KBs are the most gorgeous " brown spider" of all the " brown spiders"! Another side note is now that she ventures out more she turns her water dish over constantly. What spoods love to do with there water dishes. Lol. Could write a book!! Lol. Happy Spoodering!
