Ok so had some friends that i haven't seen for years visit this weekend and the were astonished by my T collection. I went through and did a mini presentation for them and they loved it. At the end they asked me why don't i try to do presentations like that for the public and my only answer to that is i don't know where to start.
We used to take the reptiles to the kids schools for show and tell and once at our church for a fun fair they had years ago, never had a problem. I've always been deterred by taking my Ts out because my neighbor who breeds scorpions told me you had to have the proper paper work and insurance to present venomous animals to the public. I've tried to research more about the subject and found nothing. So who better to ask then someone here. Anyone do anything with their Ts like this? Where do i start? And is this insurance thing just a load of crap? Appreciate any input on thing, it's something I've wanted to do for awhile just never knew where to start.

Where do you do them? And how do you go about setting them up? Im in Ohio too so you're the perfect example for me.
I do presentations mainly for churches and the occasional birthday party (for family) working on doing one for the library and the high school where I graduated (in Indiana). I try to build a relationship with employees of the organization that is hosting the presentation.

When it comes to churches, you really have to think about how you are going to approach the leadership.

I know my church pretty well, I've went there literally my entire life. I've always been afraid to ask again because the last time. The kids loved it but some of the adults were tripping about the snakes. They acted like my snakes are from the devil lol

There is no legal paper work or insurance requirement for showing your pet tarantulas to some kids. You could be held legally liable if anything happens whether there were tarantulas involved or not.

I deal with people tripping about snakes, spiders, roaches and lots of other animals all the time. I had some lady giving me the side eye a few days ago for having a baby monkey with me. Who doesn't like baby monkeys???

That's a good start. It always helps to utilize a few molts within a presentation. A PowerPoint presentation goes a long way as well.

Thanks again for everyone's input to help lead me on the right track. I got in contact with the vocational school i went to my junior and senior year of high school and they said i can come out and share some of my animals at the end of school year when they have a fun day. Wish me Luck!

Kinda bummed out though, i wanted to something with the local schools but my nephew insists not to because he doesn't want anyone knowing we have spiders lol he used to love our animals but now he's embarrassed of em, just how teenagers are, hopefully he grows out of it.

Thanks, he honestly used to embrace them until puberty kicked in. Now he's a jock so all he cares about is sports which is fine with me, just don't hate on the animals bro. My other nephew that's the same age doesn't get it either, he's a star football player and he loves the animals, my sister won't let him have any pets though so that's probably why.

There is a straightforward way around that, and I think you know what the solution is.

I worked with 2nd and 3rd graders and I found that most kids are very interested and have no fear for tarantulas. They even were very interested in black widows and their life cycle and ask a lot of great questions.

I was in first grade when someone brought a Mexican fire knee into glass to show it off. I've been interested in all kinds of creepy crawlies. I'm a looker though. And I've thought about holding my H pulchripes, but I'd be afraid of it getting hurt more than anything. I love watching them. It's neat as hell, and talking about it has created more curiosity with my coworkers than fear. I suppose you could spark interest with people at any age as long as you where considerate of their fears. Even the lady who is deathly afraid of them has calmed down. My boss let's me bring them to work. Sometimes when the CEO is gone.

Cool to educate and even better to bring one in for people to look at. The more information you give the less the fear will be. :T::cool:
