Most of my Ts would be on their tippy toes when feeding, to allow space between the prey and the ground. I noticed a similar behavior for a few of them even when they are not heating or just walking around. My Aphonopelma chacoldes is like this 100% of the time, regardless of what she is doing. She seems to constantly be as high as she can on her legs with her “butt” aiming up.
I imagine there must be a reason behind it.

Lol, I wondered from the title if you meant like this ;) Daveina my Davus pentaloris decided to stand like a human ahaha, made me giggle.

But yes I have wondered about the whole bum up thing when they are not eating. I saw someone mention it was a defence thing, maybe warning that they might kick hairs, but that was when the tarantula was out of the enclosure under light to be filmed so it was understandably stressed. I have indeed seen casual bums up when they don't otherwise appear stressed; like oursapoil said if it's nearly all of the time then maybe there is another reason. My A. chalcodes interestingly is the one who seems to do it the most. I wonder if she is trying to warm her butt as she is often pointing it towards the heater (will try to find a pic - I take so many they get lost :p).

It might be common to this species as ours chalcodes seem to be doing the same. Is yours a female? Maybe it is a lady's trick to attract males ;)

It's scared of the true spider on the floor!

My female chalcodes does this too. She has been underground in her burrow for a while, and when she comes out, it's like she doesn't know how to stand XD

Scared of the true spider on the floor, love that :p 'omg there's a spider on the floor, mum there's spider...' 'YOU are a spider' 'oh'.

I have a juvie A.chalcodes (Roz)— hopefully a female— because she does this too. :) She sometimes flips her bottom up when I open her enclosure — It seems to me as a defense move, like she is trying to make herself look VERY large—my gbb sling does this too. Roz also does the tippie-toe stance and T.vagans, B. emilia and G. rosea do it when eating.
