My new guy ate a couple of times, but now he seems to have sealed himself in a little spider sock behind all the stuff in his enclosure. Is this what pre-molt looks like with an OBT?

That's more than likely and you will probably only get a few bits of old exo pushed out in a week or 2. They like to decorate their homes with bits of moult.
