So......at least 15 minutes ago after just getting home from work I went to check on my babies like usual.

I look into the 3 inch T. albo, (biggest one I have so far) and didn't see him like usual. My first thought did he escape? I grab my flashlight and put it on the lowest setting.

I guess you know what comes next.....

I barely shined it on his burrow entrance and seen his legs so I go, ok cool.

He shoots out of his burrow and goes into a threat pose. First time ever he's done this to me and scared the poop out of me. I now know never to shine the light in there again. It's also my first threat pose experience.

I understand why but man.....this is gonna change the whole ball game interacting with him. For the record I'm a hands off keeper, I don't handle. I can see feeding time might give me a run for my money now.

I don't know how you guys deal with old world, fast moving and highly defensive species. I will never be able to deal with those.

PS. Just looked on Amazon for toilet paper and most are sold out. What the hell is with this toilet paper hoarding......argh

The first time one of my tarantulas gave me a threat pose, I broke out into laughter.

Are they hoarding the loo roll or do they need it because they are shining lights at old worlds? :p

One of my young albos is like this (my hamorri is even more grumpy!). What I find with that one is that it has a high feeding response too so it's a bit more of a rascal than the other 2. I've had it attack the pipette because it thought it was food and that sort of thing. However, it's bark is worse than its bite and when I have to do maintainance or rehouse it, it becomes a wimp. So don't worry, I'm sure you'll be able to work with it and get to know all it's little quirks. As long as you keep your fingers out of reach you'll be fine.

It just scared me rushing out like that and then going into a threat pose I wasn't expecting that. It was all about the flashlight, he hates it.

He's fine now. He stays outside of his hide all day. I tested his temperment by rubbing my finger on the part of the plastic he's on of his enclosure to see if he threat poses again. Got nothing, I'm pretty sure I just startled him and it ticked him off. I have to admit though after the jump scare I was watching him for a little bit because it was kind of cool. I've only seen threat poses on video so it was definitely cool.

Oh nooooo #1 rule I have for myself is no hands allowed in their enclosure, period no matter how docile they are.

My 1/4" B boehmei is the king at threat postures! It's a riot! My 3.5-4" baumgarteni is kinda scary though. He will threat pose and then hit the wall of his enclosure so hard you can hear it all over the house!

I've gotten a few jump scares from that baumgarteni for sure. But also a lot of laughs too. Almost everytime I fill his waterdish he threat postures at the water and then slaps the dish repeatedly and soaks himself! Then stumbles off all upset :D

It does make me glad he's in his adult enclosure and can be fed and watered through the airholes! Only time I have to open the lid is to retrieve uneaten feeders and moults.
