I'm still terrible at pointing out species in pictures, but my mind went directly to M. robustum

There seems to be a great deal of misunderstanding surrounding B. smithi and B. hamorii, there was no reclassification of B. smithi they are two separate species that were all being called B. smithi. I am not at home but will expound upon it later.

Yes a great deal of confusion. Even Deadly Tarantula Girl referred to a B. hamorri as formerly known as B. smithi.

Thing is just because you had a B. Smithi before doesn't mean all of the sudden it's a hamorri unless it was one of the misidentified. It's easy to determine what you have if you download and read the information. The hobbiest are going to ruin the breed by assuming all things smithi before are now hamorri and not studying the information. Here's the site that has the 23 page report that shows the differences. It wouldn't let me link it so you'll have to type it in. Other sites ive found this wants to charge people...this one was free.

It makes it worse that all the online sellers are listing them as B. hamorii formerly B. smithi. I tried to up load the 24 page report about Brachypelma as a whole and found out the file was way too large.

I'm glad I got my big girl after the name change.

That doesn't mean that's what it is...breeders are a huge part of the problem as well.
Very true, I was offered a B. smithi (ex annitha) after I got my female hamorii (why I didn't take the deal I'll never know, that probably would've helped answer some questions).
