Letting them crawl on to your hand or wrists on there own will is one thing. forcing it out of hiding in order to hold seems kinda cruel and is asking to get bit but I'm still kinda new to having a pet tarantula..so what do I know..

Tarantulas dont bite what they are sitting on...its the transition between picking them up is where you get bit.
Crazy as it may seam...get the OBT to run onto your hand and chances are your fine. I've had many instances where baboons have sprinted onto me. Never have I been bitten by a tarantula sitting or walking on me. I've had pokies sprinting around my body like the Indianapolis 500 yet I've never been bitten. Asshat for attention??? Or pioneer showing you a different view??? Maybe you just have your blinders on and cant see the light???

So they won't bite me if there already sitting on me or walking on me that's interesting to know I learn something new on here everyday? This is probably a stupid question@Arachnoclown can the flick hairs at you when there on you?

Yes they can...even if they dont flick hairs you can still get haired by them. Contact with them is all you need to feel the effect from the hairs. Each species varies for the intensity of the hairs. Many have multiple types of urticating hairs which effect things differently...

attention seeking, pioneering or whatever, given the potential effects of being bitten at some stage (even if it's at transition rather then sitting)' irritation from urticating hairs and the main reason of all.... your spider could be damaged/killed if not prepared properly for handling, my personal advice is, and will always be, please don't handle your T*

*Obviously there are times when like @Arachnoclown says, they run up your arm or they escape and you have to intervene, so I am talking about the conscious decision made to handle (for whatever reason)

I'll still stick with the paintbrush and catch cup. Aside from one instance, I've never had a need to handle. That instance wasn't entirely positive.
