Diskinetic syndrome by entomology

This is an on-going issue and I thing a rather interesting one due to the fact many people have lost their “ pet” tarantulas with DKS.

Dks.. is a form of cerebral paralysis involving the direct nerve endings of the nervous system of the tarantula to stop functioning over a few days or even hours.

Symptoms could be the result of metals or chemicals in the water supply

Bacterial build up

Temperature and humidity controlled incorrectly

“Stress”

Climate and altitude

These are all just ideas and assumptions but think it is a good topic to discuss and get peoples experiences on the subject.

Hello
Since its a hypothesis, its quite an interesting topic. Like with Avics especially, you'd find an Avic perfectly healthy and then bam dead. They tend to say SDS if I remember correctly, sudden death syndrome which I think there is reasons for this. Is it due to food ? The water ? Enclosure ? What bothers me is, these deaths occur with hobbyists from beginner to experienced. So its worry some, no true obvious reasons leading up to it. So what I'm wondering, SDS - DKS maybe the same thing ?

Yes sudden death syndrome gives no warming, but DKS is not nice too see as the tarantula seems in pain and discomfort.
Another theory is that it's in the door we feed tarantulas especially what we feed to the " feeders" we feed to the tarantulas!! It could be a build up of unknown proteins amongst others. Pesticides on vegetables fed to feeders so I make sure I wash it all of well, but does not ensure all is well as the pesticide or route of the problem can be in the food source itself?? . I've pulled 2 Pokies put of DKS on my ic u units with sterility being at the highest level and after 3 weeks only did they recover so if one " catches it in time you can still save your T in time !!! Sometimes Dehydration I a T can cause one to think it's DKS in that case just submerge the prosoma directly into the low water dish to rehydrate and keep the Opiathosoma out the water as it will drown due to water intake into the open system " book lungs"

So in fact, SDS can't be attributed to DKS ? Was hoping some type of hypothesis could explain it, since its a huge issue.

SDS is sudden death syndrome without any symptoms the tarantula just dies, but DKS you see the tarantula "struggle"to move as it's nervous system is " crashing"/ failing and thus leading to death .

Well, hope to see some type of theory on SDS. Like you said, no symptoms bam dead so it's worry some with no precautionary options. Hope someone reads this with possible views on it, and hope your discussion leaves more with a better perspective.

I found that some tarantulas that get transported died soon afterward would indicate environmental problems such as altitude changes,temp/ heat, but it can be anything as we all guest guess now what is the cause. Maybe poor ventilation also

The part that doesn't make sense, its even happened after being in peoples collections for a while. Then again the other thing, if it was just beginners one could draw a conclusion there. This has happened to people who are at different levels of experience, so for me its an answer I'd love to find.

Maybe in years to come field researches will have the correct answer. Why I say altitude is because it can take a while to acclimatize to altitude even after days or weeks. So many factors to consider. What all goes into certain peat blocks too because be just buy and never really know for sure hey???? So many possibilities here?? Let's see what other options there are??!!
