I made a couple 10 gal aquariums for my arboreals and decided to buy a glass drill bit, to create more holes for ventilation. I was nervous, but the $14 Sears bit worked like a charm with no cracks, chips, or anything but perfect, clean holes. Figured I'd let people Kno in case someone wanted to try it.
I dripped a lil water on the spot, angled the bit @ 45degrees to start, then after a few seconds, straightened the drill. Perfect.

Looks good! I'm always nervous as hell drilling glass. One disaster with a half full fish tank was enough ;)

What did you use to do the actual drilling, though? An electric drill?
I am wondering if I could do the same with my dremel type thing if I had the right drill bit.
Looks great!

Cordless Dewalt power drill. The bits "neck" is pretty big, so it'll only fit in a real drills "chuck" but I know Dremel has a diamond tip bit for glass.

In case someone is interested here's a pic of the package. I can also make and post a video of me drilling a hole to show how I did it if it'll help

@SpiderDad61 isnt there some thing about having to be sure the glass isn't tempered?
I'd love to do my five and ten for my leggy kids.
I wouldn't do it on my car windows of course, but if you've ever broken a tank, u Kno it breaks into large shards and not into little pieces like tempered glass. There very well may be tempered glass aquariums out there, but the ones I buy for $1-$1.50 per gallon at the pet stores aren't listed as tempered. To be honest, I'd have tried it anyway, even if I didn't Kno what would happen beings they are cheap and I really wanted to drill the glass for ventilation

Thanks hun, I know they do them now but it may be just the bottoms. Definitely worth a try :)
