DKS advice?

I'm fairly certain my P. regalis has DKS. I haven't a clue what could be the root behind it all. She's in a room with 32 other tarantulas, and none are exhibiting symptoms. Her enclosure is relatively dry, with exception of a water dish. Up until early evening last night, she was eating good, hanging out in the open (and hiding when necessary), and generally in good health. She started hanging out on the bottom of the enclosure around dinnertime, and shoving all the substrate around the water dish into the water. She remained there for the rest of the night. Odd.

I checked on her early this morning (still hanging out by the water dish--I cleaned and refilled), but by the time I got home from work, roughly 8 hours later, she was slinked into a death curl. I gently tapped the enclosure, and received convulsion-like reactions. This continued for some time. I now have her in an ICU, guided her to the water dish and put her mouth in the water, and she seems to be responding positively (no death curl, less violent convulsions). Of course, I'm not naive enough to believe she's on the mend, but perhaps I'm missing something?

This is horrible to watch, but I cannot muster the courage to euthanize her (I have a guilty conscience if I kill an ant). Of course, part of me is hopelessly wishing she'll pull out of it (she is one of my favorites), but the logical side knows better. I'm just curious if anyone else can offer their antidotes related to this heart-wrenching condition.

I wish I could upload a video to show her symptoms, but I'm not tech-savvy. From what I've read, she is displaying DKS.

Update: As expected, woke up to the death of my regalis. :( That was the most bizarre, painful thing I've ever seen with any animal I've owned. I'm still curious if anyone has experience dealing with this, and what (if anything) can be useful for prevention. In the 10+ years of tarantula husbandry, I've NEVER seen this before.

I'm so sorry. I've only experienced the symptom DKS once in a sling that developed the shakes within an hour of arriving and died 4 hours later. It was awful to watch so I can sympathise with you. No one seems to know what causes DKS but it seems it is a symptom rather than a disease.

A symptom of what? Didn't think you could have a symptom of an unknown.

I think it can be a symptom of illness or stress but so little is known about T's ailments it not certain exactly what yet. I suppose it's a bit like us getting the shivers that can be caused by any number of things, fear, flu etc, or just plain cold.

Read a lot of posts where they say they think it's symptomatic of a poisoning of some sort as well. Something as simple as essential oils in a hand cream from my understanding can be a problem...or touching another pet with flea control on them. Frightens me so much I'm considering doing all maintainance/feedings with gloves.

I knew lotions and potions were bad.....now to try and convince my daughters. Wish me luck!
@TabithasMom, I am not making light of your loss here so please don't think I am. It is totally horrible when you see your loved ones suffer. I was in pieces when my P. Metallica passed following an injury. Tried corn flour, super glue and all sorts. It was horrible. Not come across this to date and hope never to do so.

Yep, from what I've read (and I read A LOT about DKS after the demise of my pokie) it's usually some kind of toxin. Fertilizer, insecticide, aerosols, mold...it's a symptom of an underlying cause. I equate it to colic in horses: a whole host of horrible symptoms, and you gotta be the detective to figure out why. Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint what that cause was. I've whittled it down to three possible options, but I know I'll never know. For precautionary reasons, I'm taking steps to avoid this in the future. Like, don't touch the dog before reaching in to do maintenance, putting my partner on a leash from catching bugs in the garden for the Ts (and he solemnly swore he wouldn't, having witnessed what could happen), and making use of isopods to control mold growths from boluses I can't reach.

And @Phil, no worries. I know you're not be insensitive. :)
