Cost of Tarantulas

So I've been looking at a few different sites, not only UK (that's where I am) and the price difference for some species is crazy in different countries, UK being one of the cheapest places to buy T's I have found, how is this even possible? The UK doesn't have any native Tarantulas so everything must have been imported at some point. Where as the US have a good few native Tarantula species And even the native ones cost nearly 3 times as much as they do over here in the UK.
In the UK it is extremely rare to pay over £150 ($189) for one Tarantula even adult females. Obviously some of the rare species like the P. Solaris cost a bit £700 ($881) bit I did see this species on a US site for £7,938 ($10,000) does anyone have any idea why this is?

I think it's more about the demand. Perhaps the difference in import costs make a huge difference, as well. I'm sure there are various factors. I just don't know what they are, lol. Interesting question, though. Something I'd be willing to research.

The demand could be a good shout, I'm in Scotland UK most keepers in the UK are all in England and we only have one invertebrate show a year so there can't be that much demand

Yesterday I brought a female T vagans, complete with 30X 30 X 30 Zoo Med glass enclosure for £35. It had been advertised on an online sales site since last summer & had been reduced to £35 in December. I had brought a couple of T's, including enclosures from them last summer & decided if no one else wanted her, then I would have her.

The prices in Europe are even cheaper than in the UK but unfortunately Brexit put a stop to the UK taking advantage.

I call it greed here in the US...lol. When I got back into T's 4 plus years ago I started looking at T prices in Europe and was blown away how cheap they were! My collection would be roughly 4 to 5 times bigger for the same amount of money spent. But if you want to dance you gotta pay the piper! Lol

Yeah there is a site here in the UK doing 3 sling deals for £25 where you get everything you need as if you were just starting the sling enclosures and everything I've ordered the baboon box but won't be here for a while it's too cold just now getting H Pulchripes P Murinis and C Darlingi

Did the Pound to Dollar conversion and it comes out to roughly $31.00. OBTs run around the $24.00 mark and Darlingi's bout the same or a little more from the online vendors! If you got those 3 particular slings here you looking at no less than around $80.00 dollars and then throw $50.00 in for overnight shipping! T's run ya some serious money here ...lol! But ... The OBT could qualify, possibly, as a freeby! But still if you have to ship close to 100.00 Dollars. Still pretty serious money even in these inflationary times! Like dem prices in Europe! Do y'all do any overnight shipping Andrew? And how much??

It might be worth factoring in who's actively breeding what and/or how much it is to get them through customs.

I've been to expos where vendors were practically giving away a few species. That said, I can't imagine it would be cheap or easy to get them safely and legally across a border.

What about the H Pulchripes? Yeah it's all royal mail special delivery so you get it next day before 1pm for £10 so I was £35 including shipping.

Damn! Can't beat that! The H. Pulchripes, from what I can remember, runs around the $45.00 mark or so! Cheaper than when I got mine a few years ago at around the 68 dollar mark. Overall the Golden Blue leg baboon has gone way down due to ease of breeding. I have all 3 of those species and if I could find them at that price I would have 3 more for sure. Lol.

I would say the breeding factor would play big factor and demand . How big the following is in each country ,but I always could not figure out the price tags in U.S.A most the T that where sort after where from the USA but cheaper in UK when I first started.
