I currently have a mexican red knee tarantula and I am unsure if it’s a juvenile or not, but I got them on April 1, 2023 So I assume they are. I am also unsure of the gender as well. I currently have them in a 10 gallon set up right now but is this set up alright? I have an extra 40 gallon that’s mostly width than it is height, so it’s roughly the same height as the 10 gallon. I don’t know if it’s too young to tell whether its a male or female. Here are some pictures

The size of tank you will need, will depend upon the size of your Tarantula.

When you say Mexican Red Knee, do you mean a Brachypelma smithi or Brachypelma Hamorii? It could be either, depending upon how old your Tarantula is & if you have been told it's correct modern common name.

In general Brachypelmas are slow growing, so a sling brought a few months ago, is still going to be a sling. Think of a Juvi as being half grown. So bigger than a sling, but not yet adult.

The best way to sex a T is via a molt. Although some can sex & very reliably without a molt. I cannot & your images have not loaded. You will need to use a hosting site such as ImgBB to show images here. If you want help sexing your T.

Also sorry, but I have no real idea what size a 10 gallon tank is. I use cm's or inches.

Ok, here are the actual photos then -

I didn’t even know there were multiple types of mexican red knee tarantulas! I bought him at petco so I am still unsure of the specific type. I primarily feed them dubia roaches and give them a hint of water daily since the hot uvb lamp evaporates it quickly

Hello,

In my opinion that tank looks a bit big and too cluttered. I personally have my 4y female B. Hamorii in a 5gal / 20L tank, and even that is slightly large for her. T's dont need/like a lot of space from my knowledge. I am also still an amateur however so please listen to others as well.

If the room in which you keep your T is warm enough for you, then it is also warm enough for your Tarantula. Extra heating is not needed except in cold rooms.

Your tarantula is little more than a water filled ball of urticating (irritating) hair. If it falls, even from a few inches it can & occasionally will split open, in the same way a water filled balloon bursts. This is one of the reasons most of us avoid handling our T's unless we really need to & why most us advise only doing so fractions of an inch above a table & why we advise that the distance between substrate & lid on the enclosure is little more than the leg span of a T, if it is a climber.

I hate to use the phrase, "you need more substate," but for the safety of your T. You need a lot more substrate in that enclosure to prevent it from falling & harming it's self.

You could also remove some of the bits you have on top of your substrate to give your T some soft substrate to move around on.

I keep my adult Brachys mainly in Exo Terra PT2300 Flat Faunariums, which are 14 inches by 8 inches & 6 inches tall.

Yes sounds about the same size, 30cm x 20cm x 21cm is what I have as well, however mine's a plastic cheaper terrarium as I'm on a smaller budget atm but will definetly upgrade! :D

I pay well under £10 for my PT-2300's & I can stack them 2 high & 2 wide on my shelves & still have some room for large slings, smaller juvi's. But I also use some similar sized clear plastic containers that I pick up from various locations & then melt air holes in.

I havent seen any glass terrariums here in finland for under 100 euros. Even the plastic one I have atm cost 40e. Anyways we got out of topic of the OP here!

Beautiful T! Welcome to T Keeping!

Maybe check out YouTube to get a better idea about enclosure set up and husbandry? Hopefully, you aren't feeding it more than once/twice a week at most.
I'd also recommend losing the heat lamp and adding a lot more substrate. As has been said, fix the clutter. Image you living in that mess.

The Exo Terra PT-2300 is not made of glass. It is plastic.
