I was wondering if anybody here at TF has been bitten by a hissing cockroach. I can tell you now they can bite. Lol. Nothing terrible but will get your attention. Full grown female. I think she thought I was something to eat!!! Poor girl!! Lol

Reason I think it was food driven is I hadn't feed the hissers in a good minute so I had a big slice of apple for them. Mind you I'm barefooted and in my warm up pants. Fed the apple, left the T room and evidently she escaped on to me hitching a ride. I'm watching TV and a sharp but growing pain in my upper ankle, that at first felt like a mosquito growing to flea level then beyond got my attention. I look and it's a full grown female hisser lol. Think she thought I might taste good! Good thing I stopped her!!!!!!

Didn't freak me out but was very surprised! Lol. Handled her before and never a issue. Never heard of these guys intentionally biting. I think she was hungry and a bit confused. Lol. I also think if left to her work the pain would have definitely got worse as well.

If it has mouth parts, it can bite. That goes for every single animal.

That said, my Asbolus verrucosus (blue death feigning beetles) try to bite sometimes. They can't get ahold of the skin on my hands, but you can definitely see those little mandibles going to work.

Yeah they have some knarly mouth parts but usually they don't bite. I have no doubt these guys could lay a good lick on you if they wanted though.
