Sometimes I take them out. I have a ziplock bag with them. I don't think it hurts the spider.

It gives the spider something to do. Walk from one side of the cage to the other carrying the molt. LOL

I sometimes leave them in and yes, they do move them around and occasionally I find them sitting on the old moult.
