You can keep them in a non-transparent storage tote (make sure it comes with a lid) with several cardboard 24ct egg crates. Place the crates standing up, against a storage wall, and their food and water on one side of the container. Also during cold months use a heat mat right under where they'll be congregating to sleep, place under the tote not inside. Hope this helps
