Hello! I’m new to the hobby and just bought an Aphonopelma Seemanni juvenile from a local pet store! My question is: Are there major coloration or pattern differences between a male and female? Or will I be waiting for a molt to determine gender? I would try ventral sexing but I’m too inexperienced and have no way to get a good Picture of it to post here. Thanks!

There are different color forms of seemanni, black ,brown, blue. There are no color differences between Male and females within the same color form. A molt is always the most accurate way to sex tarantulas. Welcome to the group.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I’m not sure which exactly I have... other than I’m fairly certain it’s not a Blue form (the only other one I know of)

Welcome to the forum

Even those who have been in the hobby for a while seem to have issues ventral sexing (myself included)

Thanks for the reply! As a new owner obviously I’m excited to see if it’s male or female... I’m also nervous as to wether it’s setup is acceptable and of course I’ll be nervous about how he’s doing til I see him molt and know for a fact he’s growing alright..
