I've seen pics of tarantulas that purport to be P irminia x P cambridgi hybrids, guess the males somehow got mixed up.
They were actually nice looking tarantulas... but so were the parents!!
Generally this sort of thing is discouraged, especially for profit.
I tried and failed to restore a 1970 Cougar in my 20s because I ran out of money. I've searched for years to find one that wasn't a rolling disaster or a "ship in a bottle". It seems that they are either worth 55 cents or $55,000. I found, at last, a daily driver at a reasonable price that...
Any tarantula will be cautious when encountering a new object or a change to the enclosure. My pokies took about 3 it 4 days before they went inside iof the corkbark. It takes them some time to realize it's hollow.
May the odds be forever in your favor!! ;)
Those guys are more then I know how to handle. I'm at a loss to design or buy an escape proof cage with crystal clear visibility & these are known escape artists. Having said that, they are awesome.
Just fill the dish with lukewarm water so you don't cause stress or temperature shock. There's no need to stop filling the waterdish. If they want a shower, so what? Just make sure that the water doesn't bounce off the tarantula and gets into the dish.
My L klugi thinks everything is food. I...
Yes, you can still see your pokie if you provide a corkbark hide.
This is Morgana, my female P striata. Like my P vittata specimens, the females are less photosensitive then the males are. Of course, this could be a coincidence, but it's still an interesting pattern.
Here is a short video...
Don't worry about that. I have corkbark for all 4 of mine. I usually see one or two of them, sometimes all 4 every day, sometimes every other day. They hang out on the inside just below the top, typically with the feet hanging over.
They also tend to hang out on the back of the cage where I...
I looked at the specs for it and realized it would work.
I use these on all 4 of my pokie cages, which are all 8x8x12. I tested and carefully measured the temps inside and found that it works.
The mats warm one section at the back of the cages only. Sometimes they hang out there. Other times...
The screens are bonded with those, same with the ExoTerra cages. This means that where the wires cross over they are attached by a bonding agent that makes the screen one piece. Since the bonding agent fully covers where they cross over, there's physically no place for claws to hang up.
This...
I have 4 pokies. They have excellent vision, unlike other tarantulas. Once it gets to the size of a silver dollar or 50 cent piece, it'll do fine in an adult cage.
The other trick with pokies is to always use a cage that opens from the top, never the side. Pokies run in a spiral pattern, like a...
Here is my first video on my first ever dwarf species that I have, pumpkin patch large form. The Spinnerette magazine for this species has already been put out there on Patreon, but I want sure and didn't want to give away anything.
Here is another update on my E olivacea sling, aka...
A window mounted heat pump / AC unit is much safer in terms of fire hazards. Most can both heat and cool. If you are going from say just 70 to 80 or whatever, its a few degrees. Therefore you don't need a very powerful unit. In fact, probably the smallest one on Amazon or whatever is probably...
The simplest thing to do is to turn up your home heat to 75 and be happy.
There is a Zoo Med product selling for $11.88 on Amazon that I have tested multiple times and found safe. You mount this high on one side never underneath!! The heat mat itself rises to a temperature of 90 to 95...
