    Aphonopelma Chalcodes death explanation needed

Just coaxed him towards his water dish by dropping water droplets behind him, he moved on his own, slowly but surely. He’s now kinda standing above his dish, hopefully he’ll drink.

That’s smart, I’ll start doing that.

    Aphonopelma Chalcodes death explanation needed

I put a new water dish in there, I previously had a 4oz deli cup in there but it seemed too tall for him to reach. I’ll see if I can coax him into drinking from the shallower one.

    Aphonopelma Chalcodes death explanation needed

Update: I just saw him move a little bit, I’m just gonna wait and see what happens. I looked from the side and it doesn’t look like his legs are tucked under him. They’re like in front of him but very close to his body.

    Aphonopelma Chalcodes death explanation needed

Hi all, sad news- my male Aphonopelma Chalcodes died this morning. I found him in full death curl in the corner of his enclosure. I tried lightly spraying some water around him, no response. This makes sense, as he had his ultimate molt a month or two ago, but I guess I’m just wondering if I...

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

Just looked it up, that's an old wive's tale. Would these dishes work? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0773DRF54/?tag=exoticpetnetw-20

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

Isn't it possible for them to drown in a dish like that though?

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

Got it, I don't plan to do any breeding or anything so the sperm webs won't be an issue. Currently I have him in a 12"x12" Exo Terra enclosure with 4" of substrate, a good sized hide, and fresh water always available. I feed all my tarantulas a couple of Dubia roaches once a week, and I also...

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

Oh wow, well that's unfortunate. How long would you estimate he's going to live for? Thanks very much for the help, by the way.

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

Here's a photo. Don't mind the weird gray blob in the photo where her/his carapace is, that's just a smudge on the glass of his/her enclosure.

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

I'm not sure if this is the final molt though, I hope not. I just got him/her last October. When I bought him/her, he/she was fairly small, I'd say 2 1/2". I'll see if I can get an updated measurement later.

*Meant to say he/her, not he/she. Apologies for the typo.

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

I'll try to take a photo when he/she comes out of her hide. It is possible I was sold a male, however I thought males had the non-female color scheme throughout their entire life. Apparently I was mistaken.

    A. Chalcodes completely changed color following molt.

Hi all, I woke up this morning to discover that my A. Chalcodes had molted, and completely changed color. Before the molt, she was the coloration of a typical female. Light tan, and slightly darker brown. However now, he/she's significantly larger and appears to be a very dark blue/black and...

How did you get into the hobby?

When I was around 7 years of age I bought my first tarantula, a female Brachypelma Boehmei. I still have her today! I'd always been obsessed with interesting critters and arachnids.
