I've put holes just above the substrate level and near the top of the enclosure.

a tarantula can be in pre molt for a long time before the actual molt happens.
Best thing to do is provide water and up the humidity a bit and sit and wait.
it doesn't sound good. But you never know. might just be very stressed from the car journey. Is it due a molt? Sometimes tarantulas do molt upright.
I would leave it alone for a week but keep an eye on it. Provide water and keep humidity optimal.

Hello and welcome to the hobby. You need to put more substrate in the first spider home, a hide and a water dish. Those are the basic items.
